The veteran Italian journalist who scooped the Vatican by releasing an embargoed draft of a major document on the environment penned by Pope Francis, has been given the papal boot.

A draft of a major environmental document by Pope Francis says “the bulk of global warming” is caused by human activity and calls on people — especially the world’s rich — to take steps to mitigate the damage by reducing consumption and reliance on fossil fuels.

U.N. estimates up to 850 migrants perished in capsized boat off Libya

BERLIN — The United Nations refugee agency estimated Tuesday that as many as 850 migrants had perished in a boat capsizing this week off the coast of Libya, as the ship’s captain and a crew member were taken into custody on criminal ­charges.
